Deal is a buzzing seaside town whose Castle was built by Henry VIII as part of the coastal defences, which has survived amazingly well throughout the Centuries. It grew from a small fishing village and is a ‘limb port’ of the Cinque Ports, which was once one of the busiest ports in England.
It attracts visitors for its vibrant art scene, eclectic shops and pier, it is also home to a trio of castles, with the Deal Timeball Tower right on the seafront linking its fishing history, as does the Deal Maritime Museum. It has a wealth of heritage, history, architecture and contemporary culture. Lots of independent businesses, festivals and events, as well as traditional seaside attractions, make this a must-see destination.
