Description
Darenth Woods is of national importance for a number of semi-natural ancient woodland types, which has been developed on a range of different soils associated with the area. The woods, near to the Darenth Country Park, cover around 300 acres, and are the largest example of chalk soils supporting sessile oak and hornbeam coppice woodland, which occurring on chalk, which is very rare. Rare insects, fauna, nesting birds and fungi in this high forest.
