Description

Housed in an old industrial building on the site of a former market garden, Deal Maritime and Local History Museum itself has as rich a history and portrays the changing history of Deal, Walmer and surrounding areas that are ‘packed to the rafters with fascinating glimpses into the past’. Boats on display include the Saxon King, built with exhibits including the Saxon King built in 1891 and a  Dunkirk ‘Little Ship’. Little Ships were private boats that sailed from Ramsgate to Dunkirk between 26th May to 4th June in 1940 to reduce more than 336.000 British, French and other Allied soldiers during Operation Dynamo.
It has maritime and local history galleries as well as Royal Mariines exhibition.

Accessibility
The museum is wheelchair accessible on the ground floors of the main building, stable block and in the boatyard. A tablet computer on the ground floor enables those with limited mobility to access the quizzes, coalfield films, displays on Hooden horses and shops in the Upper Gallery and the film about Deal and Dunkirk in the Maritime Gallery.
The toilet is not wheelchair accessible, but there is a RADAR key toilet in the nearby Town Hall, within 100 meters, when open.
