Description
Eridge Park provides a great backdrop to a number of public events every year including festivals, country fairs, sporting competitions and charity galas. Eridge Park is the family home of the Marquess of Abergavenny. The estate is steeped in history, being reputedly the oldest enclosed Deer Park in England. The Nevill family inherited the estate in the heart of the High Weald in 1448 and have been there ever since. Henry VIII often hunted at Eridge Park and Queen Elizabeth I spent six days there in 1573. While a castle was built in 1787, it was demolished by the late 1930s, when the current Georgian-style mansion house was built.
