Description
The remains of the Faversham Stone Chapel (Our Lady of Elverton) is the site of the only Christian building in England to incorporate within its fabric the remains of the 4th Century Romano-British pagan mausoleum of which can be seen in a shallow, dry valley within open fields. Excavated during the 19th Century and again in the 1960s and 1970s, the mausoleum is roughly square with each side around six meters and build on a foundation raft of flints, with one metre thick walls, it was a Mausolea built to contain and mark high-status burials.
