Description

Part of the Folkestone Artworks, ‘Folk Stones by Turner Prize artist Mark Wallinger is one of the many stand out pieces and features 19,240 individually numbered pebbles to represent the exact number of men killed on 1st July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme. The work is inspired by millions of soldiers who left Folkestone Harbour to fight on the battlefields of France and Flanders. The numbers replace names in this thought-provoking piece.
