Description
Grain Tower Battery can be seen from the shoreline of Grain and an old stone walkway is still visible when the tide is out but is broken and muddy so it is not advised to access it. It is based on the Martello Towers (please see our separate listings on the Towers for more details) that were built around the south coast to defend the country against an invasion during the Napoleonic Wars with France, according to historicengland.org.uk, and was used in both World Wars.
