Description

Located on the Western Heights above Dover town are the stone foundations of a small chapel linked to the Knights Templar. Founded in the 12th century during the Crusades, the Knights Templar was a military and religious order. The group was established to protect the pilgrims travelling to Jerusalem and to defend the holy places there. However, they became increasingly unpopular with wealth and power resulting in their eventual suppression in 1312.
