Description

Maison Dieu, or God’s House was the Medieval name for a hospital, and this was originally the Hospital of Blessed Mary of Ospringe. Commissioned by Henry III in 1234 to care for the sick and aged to give them hope that they had not been forsaken by God. For the poor who were on a pilgrimage, it was the last stop on the journey to Canterbury. Opened as a museum in 1925, this English Heritage property is run by the Maison Dieu Museum Trust.
