Description

The town's only public park, the Memorial Park in Herne Bay has a play area, a football pitch, two mini soccer pitches, tennis and ball courts, a bowling green, multi-use games area, a model boat and leisure lake, and a pavilion. The park was established following the end of World War I when, following the armistice in 1918, a local committee established it to commemorate the men who had lost their lives in the war. The memorial is a red sandstone pillar and was unveiled in 1922 listing the names of the 211 people from the town who fell in World War I plus those from subsequent conflicts.
