Description

St Edmund’s Pleasance in Dartford is an open space that offers great views of the town and surrounding countryside. It is on the former site of St Edmund's Burial Ground, which between the 14th and 16th Centuries was an important religious centre, and includes the Martyr’s Memorial erected in 1851. The site has not been used as a burial ground from about 1857 but the area was not cleared of gravestones until the 1960s when it was planted with flower beds and trees.
