Description

Stour Valley encompasses important landscapes and habitats and has several national trails like the North Downs Way, Greensand Way and Saxon Shore Way through it as well as many local trails like Stour Valley Walk or the Big Blean Walk. There are also five national nature reserves as well as smaller reserves and wildlife sites, as well as historical sites due to its closeness to the continent it is rich in the history of invasion and settlement. The Stour Valley is thought to be a major stronghold for water vole, which has suffered a significant decline in recent years, with an important population on the Lower Stour Marshes.
