Theatre Royal Margate presents a variety of shows including plays, operas, musicals, pantomimes and comedy in this historic building. Dating back to 1787, it is a listed II building that was radically redesigned in 1874 from a Georgian boxed playhouse into a Victorian theatre when the stage was shortened and a second floor gallery level was added. It was also where the first drama school started in the country by Sarah Thorne in 1885.
