Theatre Royal Margate presents a variety of shows including plays, operas, musicals, pantomimes and comedy in this historic building. Dating back to 1787, it is a listed II building that was radically redesigned in 1874 from a Georgian boxed playhouse into a Victorian theatre when the stage was shortened and a second floor gallery level was added. It was also where the first drama school started in the country by Sarah Thorne in 1885.

Stalls are wheelchair accessible, the Royal Circle and gallery aren’t. Customers using wheelchair spaces can buy tickets at the lowest price available. Pushchairs and baby car seats are not permitted in the venue. Margate Theatres have linked up with Thanet Community Transport Association to provide affordable and wheelchair accessible minibus transport. Call 01843 602030 for more information. Hearing loop available but not for every show, check with box office before booking. Guide dog allowed, please notify the box office at the time of booking.
