SCHOOL HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Also until the 2nd of September head to Medway to help the Octonauts Deep Sea Adventure at Historic Chatham Dockyard. They have come to the dockyard to investigate reports of mysterious creatures from the Midnight Zone setting up home there.
In Tonbridge, craft activities for little ones to make special things to take home during this once-a-week session in the school holidays. Summer Saturday Crafts at Penshurst Place and Gardens in Tonbridge every Saturday until 2nd September.
On selected dates throughout the school holidays until 3rd of September at Dover Castle visitors can learn what life was like in medieval times. From jester workshops, have-a-go archery, storytelling, and squire training to lessons in courtly etiquette there will be a different activity each week for children to take part in the Medieval Season. At the Millbrook Mad Hatter’s Crazy Golf in Gravesend at the Millbrook Garden Centre at their 9-hole course filled with fun features and obstacles until 3rd September 2023.
Summer Beach at Whitefriars in Canterbury has numerous sandy-themed activities including under the sea characters and picnics, African drumming and Samba music workshops, seaside-themed arts, sandcastle competitions, live music, and lots more. Until 3rd September 2023. Free entry, with some activities £1-£6.
Get them to wear their caped crusader costume to really get into the spirit of the Heroes and Villains School at Hever Castle in Edenbridge, Sevenoaks. They can find secret signs and calls, test skills to become the hero and defeat the villain at each turn, and when they fight the last battle – who will be the last standing? Until the 3rd of September. Plus during the holidays there are Falconry Displays.
At the Brainiac Live at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Dartford kids can put their science skills to the test. They can learn to use real forensic techniques and apply them to help solve a mystery or develop their rocket design and space exploration skills in the Astronaut Academy. Until 3rd September, 4 shows daily, age guidance 6 years +.
Summer of Play
National Trust properties are running a number of holiday activities until the 3rd of September. In Tunbridge Wells, everyone up to the age of 16 years can enjoy Dino games in the garden, or the natural play area, check out the wilderness camp, and unearth even more fun at an archaeological dig with Summer of Play at Scotney Castle. Also under the theme of Summer Of Play head to Winston Churchill’s family home Chartwell where you can meet his childhood toys, play dress up, hit the dance floor with lessons, and have lots more holiday fun. Plenty to do also at the Summer Of Play at Quebec House in Sevenoaks – including traditional games including quoits, Jenga, and hobby horses (Wednesday to Sunday), archery too on Wednesday, with children’s yoga classes in August.
Get silly with science and have fun with forces in this interactive exhibition exploring science through the ages. Ancient Wisdom at The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge in Canterbury offers visitors the opportunity to build, turn, spin, wedge, wheel, weigh, pull, and play groundbreaking ideas from ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Until 5th November.
Monsters Of The Deep, until 26th November 2023, at the Historic Dockyard in Chatham, Medway, see little – and large – one’s imagination come alive with this dark murch plunge into the depths of the ocean to discover what monsters lie beneath. Learn about myths and legends about sea creatures and how, even today, these stories continue to capture imaginations, fuelled by fake news and conspiracy theories.
The country parks in Kent have a range of fantastic activities this Summer, including trails, river raft building, pond dipping, den making with family forest fun days, science experiments, storytime sessions, craft making, teddy bear hunts, and lots, lots more. At the Junior Engineering Experiences at Kent and East Sussex Railway in Tenterden, they can journey along the line behind a steam locomotive, climb onto the footplate and learn how it works. There is also a behind-the-scenes tour of our locomotive workshop at Rolvenden and activities. On the 1st & 2nd September.
For the last few days of the holidays head to Betteshanger Country Park in Deal and take a jump on the ultimate inflatable obstacle course. For children, The Bouncezilla includes inflatable walls, balls, and jumps for ages 3 to 7 years. There’s also The Beast, ages 8 years+, with walls, balls, and rings. From the 1st to the 3rd of September so all ages can take a leap to beat the course record.

On the 2nd of September With their latest show Science Saved The World see Ministry of Science LIVE at Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone. Join the presenters as they dive deep into the world of science and look at how science shapes the modern world with a few loud bangs along the way. 2.30pm & 6pm.
Have a great holiday adventure with the outdoor escape event CluedUpp – Beauty & The Beast. Beauty needs your help to reverse the curse and save the Beast in this unmissable take on a classic fairytale. Family and friend groups can race against the clock to unpick puzzles, crack clues, and complete challenges against the clock. In Rochester on the 2nd of September.
At the Southern Model Air Show at Headcorn Aerodrome. Ashford, there’s pleasure, balloon and helicopter flights, and lots more at this event at the Lashenden Air Warfare Museum on the 2nd & 3rd of September.
On the 2nd & 3rd of September learn about different types of birds and see them fly over the historic building during the Falconry Weekend at Ightham Mote in Sevenoaks.
