Description

The Dickens House Museum is housed in a cottage that was Victorian novelist Charles Dickens' inspiration for the home of  Betsey Trotwood in his novel David Copperfield. Miss Mary Pearson Strong often served tea and cakes in her parlour to the writer and inspired the character of Betsey, according to reminiscences of his son Charley. Items on view include his writing box and a sideboard, with the rooms and items also featured in the novel.
