Description
Born on the 26th September 1887 in Ripley Derbyshire, Sir Barnes Neville Wallis first began his career at a marine engineering firm where he worked up until 1913, then relocating to Vickers to design airships, including the R100. According to the Herne Bay Cultural Trail, he designed the bouncing bomb which trials were held for off of the shores at Herne Bay. To honour his memory, the bronze life-size statue of Sir Barnes Wallis was created by sculptor Tom White.
