MURDER, TRAILS AND MORE
Outdoor hunts and adventures this half term with a range of trails and quests at country parks, town centres and railway rides and treasure, little ones can solve the clues and solve the mystery this February school holidays in the county.

At the Wild One’s Fossil Hunting at Betteshanger Country Park in Deal little ones can use rock hammers to carefully reveal hidden fossils as the park is bursting with them. They can also learn about the natural history and geology of the local area and the park, with experienced leaders who will help identify what fossils are found. Time: Until 16th February 2024. Price: £10 – parking charges apply.

Take the little ones along to the Fairy Scavenger Hunt @  Whitstable Castle for little ones to trail sheet from the studio and hunt for clues around the gardens. They can also take part in the Fairy Craft Workshops in the studio. They can also enter the colouring competition for a chance to win one of the Fairy Gardens. Time: Until 16th February 2024, 11am-3pm. Price: Fairy Scavenger Hunt: £3.50 – includes sweet treat and fairy craft pack, and Fairy Craft Workshops: Additional £1.

At the Dragon Hunt at Fort Amherst in Chatham, little ones can hunt for the nine baby dragons and when they have found all of them they will receive a prize. For the best experience, it will require a mobile phone with a QR reader. Also, Lord Neil Dragon’s Bane tells tales of his adventures catching dragons around the world. At Widlwood in Herne Bay the Adam the Adder Adventure Trail sees visitors slither their way through the 42-acre ancient woodland, with prizes for the victors. There are other activities for Half Term at Wildwood, food creations, and bushcraft experiences, and fancy dress competitions too. In Tunbridge Wells head to the National Trust’s Scotney Castle for the Scotney Murder Mystery trail to see if you can reveal what’s happened. Scattered around the garden at Scotney Castle are clues, see if you can put them together and uncover what happened. If you can solve the mystery there’ll be a small reward. For the HMS CAVALIER. Crew Challenge at Historic Dockyard Chatham families have the opportunity to step aboard HMS CAVALIER and embark on an exciting journey to become honorary members of the ship’s crew. Time: Until 18th February 2024, 10am-4pm. February Half Term Events In Kent include this one in Gravesend at the Trosley Country Park – a  Year of the Dragon-inspired Half Term Trail for the school holidays. Time: Until 18th February 2024, 12Noon-1pm. Price: £3 – parking charges also apply.

In Canterbury, there’s Mischief At The Museum at the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge as they celebrate 50 years of Bagpus in this interactive family trial. Explore the museum and solve the puzzles, help round up the party guests and celebrate 50 years of Canterbury’s most famous cat in this interactive family trail. For visitors with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), they can borrow a SEND Family Backpack for a trail too. Time: From Until 18th February, 10am-5pm except Sunday 11am-4pm. Price: £5.

Nature Scavenger Hunt at Reuthe’s Lost Gardens of Sevenoaks is designed to encourage children to have fun whilst learning about what they can find in the woodland. The site is 11 acres and the gardens feature two main trails. Time: Until 29th February 2024, daily, 8.30am-3.30pm. Price: Adult: £3, Child: 3 years +: £1 – includes trail sheet and a small prize, Child: up to 2 years: Free – but do not receive a trail sheet or prize.

On the Bear Rangers Winter Quest Trail join Ranger Bear and his woodland pals on a playful quest through the magical trails of Bewl Water. Pick up a map from the Waterfront Café,  follow the clues and collect all the letters to unlock the secret word and win the game. Time: Until 17th March 2024, daily, 9.30am-4pm. Price: FREE

February half term events in Sittingbourne in Kent include the Diesel Trains and Kids Treasure Hunt activities at Bredgar And Wormshill Light Railway. Time: Until 16th February 2024, 11am-2pm. Price: TBC.

Become at CluedUpp: Crimescene Investigator in Ashford in this outdoor murder mystery event. Four victims have been killed in 24 hours, and as you hunt for clues you’ll visit different locations in the area, solve cryptic puzzles, and interrogate virtual witnesses. Time: 17th February 2024, 9am-2pm. Offer on at £18 – usually £60 for a team of 4 – Under 16 years – not counted within team numbers.

CREATIVE & CRAFTY
Little ones can learn to create a trio of Egyptian-inspired crafts, see a show about childhood and young adulthood, and learn to make sustainable items as well as Valentine’s creations for the February half term in Kent.

Eco Week 2024 at Hever Castle offer craft activities including turning an old T-shirt into a bag without any sewing and making a beeswax candle. Also learn how to make a conker laundry pouch and a bird feeder, a Japanese Tawashi dishcloth and a stick photo frame. Being Inbetween Exhibition At The Amelia photographic show explores the complex transition between childhood and young adulthood. Award-winning photographer Carolyn Mendelsohn has worked collaboratively with 90 girls and this show offers a highly personal insight into this group of unique young women. At the free Family Crafts event at Guildhall Museum make a Victorian house and help decorate a crafty Victorian street. Time: Until 16th February 2024, 10am-4pm. Price: FREE.

For the half term at the Royal Engineers Museum in Gillingham decorate a photo frame inspired by a beautiful blue silk jacket with a gold dragon embodied on it. Time: Until 17th February 2024, 11am-3pm. For February Half Term Events in Margate head to the Crab Museum which is reopening after having updated some exhibits, with an extra spicy rework of the Claw Learning Studio to show off. Time: Until 18th of February 2024, 11am-5pm. Price: FREE.

SEND Family Crafts at Maidstone Museum has Egyptian themes and offers guided and open-ended craft opportunities for children with SEND and their siblings. Betteshanger Activities – February Half Term at Betteshanger Country Park in Deal includes Axe Throwing, and at the Battle Archery Range experience they can aim high and score big with foam-tipped arrows to hit a range of targets. At the Map and Compass Orienteering for 12 years and over at Betteshanger Country Park in Deal they can learn the basics of using a compass alongside a map to take bearings and plot the direction of travel. Kids events in Gravesend in Kent during the February half term include this hands-on animal experience. Little ones can meet and handle reptiles and rodents including lizards, rats, and corn snakes. IT’S SHOW TIME!
Time to head to the theatre this February with some great shows, festivals and great experiences this February half term in Kent. Be transported down the yellow brick road, join Mr SleepBum, three little pigs, Fireman Sam and many more for fun and some fantastic experiences.

In this Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, based on the film, Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star earns a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. He turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band – sensationally performed live by the production’s young actors every night with roof-raising energy. Also there’s the opportunity to see the internationally renowned musical at the Malthouse Theatre in Canterbury this half term with Les Misérables School Edition. The SIX Teen Edition from Trinity Theatre is, due to show licensing restrictions at The Thomson Theatre, at The Skinners’ School, St John’s Rd, Tunbridge Wells TN4 9PG. Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived – from Tudor queens to pop icons, the SIX wives of Henry VIII take the mic to remix 500 years of historical heartbreak into a euphoric celebration of 21st-Century girl power. Family fun with magic, balloons, puppets, games and so much more, as The Kent Magicians Guild with Children’s Showtime at Stag Sevenoaks – its third successful year to the theatre with their magical spectacular. Time: 17th February 2024, 2pm. Price: £10, Family – 1 adults + 3 children or 2 adults + 2 children: £33.

Kids events in Faversham in Kent include the comedy circuit’s best stand-ups and sketch acts with the Comedy Club 4 Kids @ The Alex. Time: 17th February 2024, 2pm. Price: Child: £6, Adult: £8, Family of 4: £24. Booking fees may apply.

The Chatham Chinese Festival celebrates The Year of the Dragon 2024. There will be a parade, market, street food, traditional dance and martial arts masterclasses. The dragon is a powerful and auspicious creature in Chinese mythology, representing courage, creativity, and innovation. 2024 promises to be a year full of possibilities and opportunities. Time: 17th February 2024, 11am-3pm. Price: FREE

The Toy Maker is in his workshop making toys for the children, when all of a sudden they come to life to tell the story of The Snow Queen. Follow Gerda on her adventures as she sets out to rescue her brother Kai from the evil Snow Queen who is holding him prisoner in her ice palace and meet the magical creatures who help her on her mission. Watch Paul Batten of Theatrix Arts perform this magical story through puppets, changing scenery, music and sound effects. Then meet the puppets and create your very own Puppet of a character from the show. Time: 17th and 18th February 2024, 11am and 2pm. Show – 40 minutes, workshop – 1 hour. Price: £10 per person. Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.



SKOOL’S COOL
February half term activities where they will love to be back at school – whether it’s theatre-based workshops, outdoor survival sessions, photography workshops and how to build a des res for birds, there’s plenty of lessons they will love to learn.

Wild One’s Forest School Holiday Club at Betteshanger Country Park. Children enjoy the outdoors and nature, having the freedom to explore for themselves, and developing self-confidence, self-esteem, and a whole host of other skills. Activities may include woodland crafts, lighting fires, campfire cooking, building dens, and climbing trees. Time: Until 16th February 2024, 9am-3pm. Price: £30 per day. Parking charges apply. Age Guidance: 5 to 11 years.

Young performers with a passion for acting, singing or dance, can sign up for five days of intensive training with industry professionals with the Panto School 2024 course at Stag Sevenoaks. Time: Until 16th February 2024, 12th to 15th – Course: 10am-5pm and 16th February Rehearsals: 10am for show at 2.30pm. Price: Five day course: £250.

Feb Fest 2024 at Hazlitt Theatre in Maidstone. With a range of theatre, dance and drama workshops with sessions for all ages with musical theatre themes including Mean Girls, Hamilton, Billy Elliot and Marvel Superhero School, Princess Academy, Dinky Disney and Barbie World Session. Time: Until 16th February 2024. Sessions vary over the dates check the listing for details. Price: Workshops £10 per person, except Dance Fit, Princess Academy for Tots and Dinky Disney sessions: £7 per session per person.

At the History Makers at Dover Castle join characters from the past. Plenty of historical hijinks and hands-on shenanigans with genuine medieval executioner Thomas de Warblynton as he executes history’s foulest traitors. Decides how he does the deed, or take up arms and learn the noble art of the sword at the sword school. Time: Until 18th February 2024, 10am-4pm. Price: English Heritage Member: Free. Adult: £23, Child – 5-17 years: £14, Child – under 5 years: Free. Concession: £20, Family – 1 adult & up to 3 children: £37. Half term events in Dartford in Kent include a range of masterclasses in singing, acting, dance and directing with leading industry professionals. In partnership with Dartford Borough Council, the West End Workshop sessions include the chance to learn the dances, songs and script from your favourite West End shows. There will also be an in-depth Q&A and get that all-important selfie with the workshop leader! At the Acacia Sports Hall at February half term and also running in May. Time: 16th February 2024, 10.30am – 2pm. Price: £15, booking fees may apply.

Little ones can create a ‘des res’ for birds in Gravesend in Kent with the Build A Bird Box activity at Trosley Country Park. Time: 16th February 2024, 10am-2pm. Price: £12, parking charges apply.

Free 2-day workshop for 14-18-year-olds to connect with arts and culture. The Tech House from Electric Medway in partnership with Screen South, and is part of our Young Hack learning programme. At Centre for Music and Audio Technology at Chatham Historic Dockyard, in Medway. Also running Digital Camp for younger ages. Time: 16th and 17th February 2024, 9.30am-4pm. Price: FREE  – must book.

The Faversham Literary Festival starts at the end of the half term but there are plenty of kid’s and family events. Time: 16th to 25th February 2024. Price: Free and ticketed.
