Description
The remaining mill is the oldest of its kind in the world. Gunpowder manufacture in Faversham was established around 1550 when gunpowder pioneers favoured the area due to its proximity to the sea to import ingredients and the low-lying woodland where materials would be sourced. Chart Gunpowder Mills is on the Gunpowder Trail, which includes other locations linked to Faversham’s history of gunpowder manufacture.
