Description

The Sailors Church was built in 1878 for the men and boys who made up the crews of the sailing smacks who fished out of Ramsgate in the 19th Century. It was hard and dangerous work especially for the young apprentices who were called Smack Boys and housed in rooms above the church and in later in the Smack Boys Home next door. A collection of model ships and paintings are on display for visitors to this small but very atmospheric grade II listed church.
