OCTOBER HALF TERM EVENTS IN KENT

NIGHT TERRORS & DRAGONS
On the 21st and the 24th of October find out what goes on in a Country Park After Dark at Brockhill Country Park in Hythe this half term just in time for Halloween. You can have an after dark tour of the park to discover what creatures come out at night, with campfire refreshments included. Price: £10. Time: 21st October: 4pm and 5.15pm and 24th October: 4pm, 5.15pm, and 6pm – 1 hour and 30 minutes.

 At Nocturnal Half Term at Powell-Cotton Museum, there are owl flying displays and silent discos and children can get creative. They can add their art to the museum’s night sky table, they can also follow the Big Hoot trail and play nocturnal-themed games. Price: Adult: £3.50/Child: £2.50/Child – 3 years and under: Free/Concession: £3/Carer: Free/Powell-Cotton Member: Free. Time: 21st, 22nd, 28th and 29th October 2023, 11 am – 3 pm. Wide-Eyes Falconry: 12Noon and 2pm – 30 minutes. SEND friendly hour: 11am-12Noon – the silent disco lights will be on but not flashing. 12-3pm – silent disco.

From the 21st to the 28th of October there’s no peeking at the Mystery Objects, What’s In The Box? event at Guildhall Museum in Rochester. Price: Free. Time: 10am-4pm.

  For Half Term at Margate Caves in Thanet sees the Monsters in charge from the 21st to the 29th of October, plus there’s Messy Monday on the 23rd for crafting fun. Price: Half Term at the caves: Messy Monday Crafts: £1 – no cave entry required. Half Term At The Caves: Adult: £4.50/Child: £2/Concession: £4/Family: £10. Time: 11am-4pm.

With the Half-Term Pumpkin Trail at Romney Marsh Visitor Centre, from the 21st to the 29th of October, explore the beautiful reserve, find the clues and solve the puzzle to win a Kent Wildlife Trust prize bundle. The Romney Marsh Visitor Centre, in Kent is set within 11 hectares of Romney Warren, a Site of Special Scientific Interest is an award-winning eco-friendly building with wildlife conservation at its heart. Price: Trail: £4. Time: 11am-3pm.

From the 21st to the 29th of October this half term they can hear about the untamed creatures as you head off to sea, and uncover the legend with this interactive storytelling session with Captain Axel in Here Be The Dragons at Historic Dockyard Chatham. They’ll need their wits about them to help find the Captain’s missing ship, but first, you must master some seafaring skills. Price: Free with admission. Admission – Pay once and free entry for 12 months. There’s half term theatre excitement at the Dinosaur Adventure Live at Malthouse Theatre in Canterbury join intrepid rangers on a quest to recover the data crystal, restore power to the island, and save the dinosaurs with this interactive stage show. Price: Adult: £15, Group discount available. Booking fees apply. Time: 22nd October at 2pm and 4.30pm, runtime is 1 hour.

On the 23rd of October take them along to Owl Flying @ The Alex in Faversham you can meet various owls in this interactive and educational event for all ages. Price: £15. Booking fees apply. Time: 1 hour and 30 minute sessions at 3pm and 4.30pm.

Let’s All Dance presents the popular ballet Sleeping Beauty at the Malthouse Theatre in Canterbury this October half term, on the 23rd of October. Dazzling dancers, Tchaikovsky’s score, and stunning costumes bring this classic story to life about a good fairy turned evil who casts a bad spell on a young princess. Price: £17.25, Child/Concession: £14.25. Time: 1pm and 3pm – 50 minutes.

For half term have some free Halloween Fun at Maidstone Mall with their craft workshops. From inspired finger painting and Venus fly trap planting sessions, each day will be something different from the 23rd to 28th of October 2023. Also, see the scarecrows as part of the Maidstone Scarecrow Festival in the town centre. Price: Free. Time: 10.30am-3.30pm.

BAT DETECTORS & CREEPY CRITTERS
At the Oh What A Knight! LEGO® Brick Masterclasses at Canterbury Cathedral from the 24th to the 26th of October. help to create an army of LEGO® Brick Knights to fill the cathedral with LEGO® experts. Price & Time: TBC.

On the 24th, 25th and 27th October at the Half Term Make It! Crafts at Maidstone Museum little ones can enjoy three days of Halloween-inspired sessions. The themes for the trio of days are Witches/Wizards Hats, Ghost Kites and Hanging Pumpkins. Price: £3.50 per session – tickets from Hazlitt Theatre. Time: 3 x 1 hour sessions: 10.30am, 12Noon and 1.30pm. Themes: 24th October: Witches/Wizards Hats, 25th October: Ghost Kites and 27th October: Hanging Pumpkins. Age Guidance: 4 to 11 years +. An adult must stay with child/ren.

 From the 24th to 29th October there are plenty of great activities for the October Half Term at Monkton Nature Reserve near Ramsgate during these school holidays. Find out how to tell a snake from a slow worm, enjoy plastic free creepy crafts, go on a spooky scavenger hunt, and discover the magic at Monkton with their fairies, and their Wild Classroom outdoor cooking session. Price: Spooky Scavenger Hunt – free with admission. Admission – Members: Free/Adult: £5/Child: £2.50/Family: £10. Workshops *: Child Members/Non Members: £3/£5/Wild Classroom: £12.50/£15 – * Includes entrance to the reserve – price for a child attending the activity. TRAINS & ANIMATION
Half Term at The Ashford International Model Railway Education Centre (AIMREC) has model railways running for the holidays. The centre aims to allow visitors to immerse themselves in the story of its railway heritage with a hands-on experience, using interactive technology designed specifically for the centre. Price: Free – £5 suggested donation welcome for adults.  Time: 25th to 25th October 2023: 10am to 4pm.

On the 26th of October Meet The Owls at Trosley Country Park in Gravesend you can ask the experts questions including how ‘silent’ is a barn owl’s flight really. Price: From £8. Time: 10.30am and 1.30pm – 2 hours.

This October half term holiday enjoy Halloween Family Fun at Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve on the 26th of October 2023. At this campfire session (with gooey marshmallows!) run by Kent Wildlife Trust’s Forest School team, there will be an autumnal wildlife craft activity. Price: 1 Child + 1 Adult £10, Additional Child: £8, Additional Adult: £4, Babies and Toddlers: Free. Time: 5 sessions between 10am-3pm.

Hotel Transylvania (Pictured/Certificate U) is one of the four free film screenings at Folkestone Harbour Arm. They will also be showing E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (Certificate U), Twilight (Certificate 12A) and Hocus Pocus (Certificate PG). Price: Free. Time:  Hotel Transylvania: 26th October, 3pm-5pm, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial: 27th October, 5pm-7pm, Twilight: 28th October, 28th October 5-7pm, Hocus Pocus: 29th October, 3pm-5.30pm.

On October 28th experience non-stop action-packed interactive magical science experiments that will capture the imagination, a fast-moving and colourful magical science show, packed with mystery, suspense, and heaps of mess. Top Secret – The Magic of Science at The Malthouse Theatre in Canterbury inspires and educates every young budding magician and scientist. Price: Adult: £13.25, Child: £11.25, Family – 2 adults + 2 children or 1 adult + 3 children: £40. Time: 2.30pm-4pm.

From the 28th to 29th of October this half term, Andy Symanowski, who has over 20 years experience of animating, writing and directing at Aardman Studios with his credits including Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, and Chicken Run runs the Stop Animation Workshop. You will animate a short animated film at Lime Tree Work Shop in Sevenoaks. Price: £125.Time: 10am-4pm.  Age Guidance: 11 to 16 years.

Join the Zoo Lab Creepy Critters at Shorne Woods Country Park in Gravesend and get up close and personal to some seriously creepy critters such as tarantulas, millipedes and snakes on 29th October 2023. Price: From £2. Time: 9.30am, 10.45am, 12Noon, 1.30pm and 2.45pm – 1 hour.

On the 1st of November join the park rangers for a Guided Bat Walk & Moth Trapping at Lullingstone Country Park in Sevenoaks. You will be identifying bats in their natural habitat, using bat detectors provided and learning about moths too. Price: £6. Time: 4pm – 1 hour and 30 minutes.
