Description

Folkestone Artworks, part of Creative Folkestone, is described as the UK’s largest urban outdoor exhibition of contemporary art. This unique free art show throughout the town and beyond showcases currently 84 artworks by 44 artists. Folkestone Artworks invites people to explore, examine and understand the town's geography, history and potential future while exploring the multi-media artworks.
Artists include Cornelia Parker, Antony Gormley, Cristina Iglesias, Richard Woods and Tracey Emin. Parker's work is based on the Little Mermaid, Copenhagen's popular tourist attraction, and is a life size, lifecast sculpture celebrating the local and the everyday. Gormley's piece from his series, Another Time, is in the loading platform at Folkestone's Harbour Arm and is to "bear witness to what it's like to be alive and alone in space and time'. This is just a small example of the work on show.
