Description

In October 2016 this larger-than-life statue of the author Geoffrey Chaucer, famed for his Canterbury Tales, dressed as a Canterbury pilgrim, was unveiled. The £200,000 cost was met through fundraising, donations, grants, and sponsorship. According to the Canterbury Archaeology Organisation, the two-metre-high statue, depicts the author of the famous Canterbury Tales, one of the first printed books,  and features each of the 30 characters of his Tales on the plinth.
The statue, believed to be the only Chaucer statue in England, is the result of a 1-year project led by the Canterbury Commemoration Society.  The Society's earlier project was the statues of Queen Bertha & King Æthelberht of Kent in the city.
