Deal is a buzzing seaside town that has a vibrant art scene, eclectic shops, museums, a pier, and a castle. Dover has of course its famous white cliffs and Castle, plus lots more.
Deal is a buzzing seaside town whose Castle was built by Henry VIII as part of the coastal defences, which has survived amazingly well throughout the Centuries. It grew from a small fishing village and is a ‘limb port’ of the Cinque Ports, which was once one of the busiest ports in England.
It attracts visitors for its vibrant art scene, eclectic shops and pier, it is also home to a trio of castles, with the Deal Timeball Tower right on the seafront linking its fishing history, as does the Deal Maritime Museum. It has a wealth of heritage, history, architecture and contemporary culture. Lots of independent businesses, festivals and events, as well as traditional seaside attractions, make this a must-see destination.
Nearby Wingham Wildlife Park is home to hundreds of animals from around the world, with a host of experiences to get up close and personal as well as a dinosaur zoo to add to the fun. For more adventure and outdoor action: a trip to Betteshanger Park. With a wide range of exciting activities where there is always something new to do. Cycling trails and tracks, geocaching, nature trails, play area – it is also home to a drive-in cinema and themed events.

Dover, with its ferry port, has spectacular views from the rolling hills of the iconic coastline. The White Cliffs are also a famous landmark not to be missed with the Lighthouse and Fan Bay Shelter, steeped in a history of defence and heritage spanning Centuries. Ideal for stunning coastal walks and trails. Visit Dover Castle, enjoy the many events they offer, such as jousting tournaments, visit the wartime tunnels, learn about the history of the Castle and even crack codes against the clock in the new, fully immersive Bunker Escape Room.
Nearby towns and villages retaining their quintessential Kentish and English element include Sandwich, with river walks and historic sites, or climb the St Peter’s Church tower for amazing views.
Attractions such as Crabble Corn Mill and Chillenden Windmill highlight their importance to the area’s past as producers and employers. War memorials, art trails, ruins and forts also showcase the town’s and village’s rich history.
The Roman Painted House, Knees Woodland with a miniature train, a steam railway and a movie museum highlight the amazing mix of attractions this area has to offer. For outdoor lovers there is much to choose from, with Samphire Hoe, a man-made nature area that has impressive views, and many beaches, bays and outdoor areas, such as the Russell and Kearsney Abbey Gardens. If you’re a fan of watersports there are plenty of choices, from adrenalin racing Sea Safaris to a day trip to France.
A wealth of heritage, history, architecture and contemporary culture. Lots of independent business, festivals and events as well as traditional seaside attractions make this a must-stop destination.
The range of things to do and events in and around these two Kentish towns is expansive and varied, with a mixture of old and new that offers a wealth of attractions and activities for all ages and interests.
